Kinshasa: Angola produced 725,613 tons of fish in 2025, marking a 9.2% increase compared to 2024, as reported by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, on Thursday in Kinshasa. According to Angola Press News Agency, during the panel on Fisheries and Blue Economy at the 3rd Angola-DRC Economic Forum, which concluded Thursday in the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Minister Neto revealed that fish production in 2024 was recorded at 664,491 tons. The 2025 figures indicate that the set targets were exceeded by a global execution rate of 104.5%. The aquaculture sector achieved a remarkable output of 35,087 tons, five times higher than the set target. Industrial and semi-industrial fishing contributed 411,150 tons, a 9.9% increase, while artisanal maritime fishing accounted for 253,109 tons, up by 3.4%. The significant growth in aquaculture, which rose from 22,047 tons in 2024 to 35,087 tons in 2025, underscores the effectiveness of sectoral promotion policies . Extractive fishing, a key component of Angola's fish production, remains vital, representing around 95% of the total output. The 3rd Angola-DRC Economic Forum commenced on Wednesday in Kinshasa under the theme 'Sub-Regional Integration and Development of Cross-Border Trade'. Supported by Presidents Joo Lourenço and Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the forum holds special importance in enhancing bilateral cooperation, leveraging the economic potential of border regions, and improving logistics and business environments. The forum aims to position Angola and the DRC as pivotal connections between Southern and Central Africa, fostering private investment and the creation of sustainable partnerships.
