Angola’s Producer Prices Index Sees Significant Decline in May

Luanda: Angola's Producer Price Index (PPI) recorded a monthly variation of 0.94% last May, representing a 3.39% decrease compared to the variation recorded the previous month, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the data appear in the INE's Producer Price Index Quick Information Sheet for May 2026, highlighting that the extractive industry recorded the largest variation-around 1%-followed by the manufacturing industry at 0.50%. The year-on-year PPI variation was positive, standing at 51.08%, representing a 56.98% rise compared to the same period in 2025. The accumulated variation from December 2025 to May 2026 stood at 63.26%.

The INE's report further details that, compared to the same period last year, the largest price variation also occurred in the extractive industry at 58.55%, followed by the Electricity, Gas, and Steam Production and Distribution sector at 11.54%, and the manufacturing industry at 5.73%.

The report notes that intermediate goods recorded the highest monthly price variation, reaching 4.77%-a decrease of 42.20 percentage points-followed by "Energy products" at 0.79%-a decrease of 5.70 percentage points. Consumer goods saw a 0.31% increase, an enhancement of 0.18 percentage points, while investment goods increased by 0.13%.

The INE further reports that, compared to the same period last year, energy product prices showed a variation of 61.42%, marking an increase of 67.44%. Capital goods varied by 7.15%, showing an acceleration of 1.08%. Consumer goods recorded a variation of 3.75%, a reduction of 2.33%, and intermediate goods showed a negative variation of 13.45%, a drop of 20.70% relative to April 2025.
