ARP Speaker condemns rise of attacks against sacred symbols of Islam

Speaker of the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP), Brahim Bouderbala, condemned the rise of assaults on Islamic holy places, describing them as «blatant provocation». They reveal contempt to the beliefs of Muslims and their sacred symbols, he said.

He pointed out that the escalation of attacks on Islamic holy sites and the burning of the Holy Quran are criminal acts which have nothing to do with freedom of expression, warning against the rise of extremism and hatred towards each other.

The parliament Speaker, who took part in an online meeting with presidents of the Union of Councils of Member Countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on Monday, urged the international community to intervene quickly and stop the «spread of Islamophobia.»

Bouderbala reminded of the positions of some countries which have called for passing law banning attacks on religions and religious symbols.

He also spoke of the resolution of the United Nations Human Rights Council related to the fight against «religious hatred.»

Bouderbala stressed the need to increase efforts at the international level so as to promote the religious dialogue while respecting human rights.

He firmly condemned the attacks perpetrated by the Zionist entity against Islamic sites and the inhabitants of El Quds in an attempt to modify the identity of the city.
