Luanda: The bishop of the Church of the Kingdom of God in Angola, Alberto Segunda, praised the role of the Church in the struggle for national liberation, in consolidating peace, and in the development of Angola. Speaking to ANGOP about the celebrations of Angola's 50th anniversary of national independence, which will be marked on the 11th of November, the religious leader considered the Church to be a fundamental pillar of national liberation, peace consolidation, and development in Angola, emphasizing that evangelical missions were among the first movements that drove the awakening to independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Segunda stated that from the beginning, the Church has fulfilled its social and spiritual role, working for the pacification of spirits and reconciliation among Angolans. He noted that even after the end of the war, the Church remained committed to reconciliation and human development, acting as a partner of the state and civil society in building a more just and harmonious Angola.
Segunda highlighted that the peace achieved is not merely symbolic but a real asset that must be valued and preserved. He urged the importance of remaining focused, working together, and keeping God at the forefront as the nation's guide. Reflecting on the gains of 50 years of national independence, Segunda pointed out advances made in education, health, and infrastructure as concrete signs of progress.
The bishop remarked on the development seen in growing cities, roads, schools, and hospitals, while acknowledging that there is still much to be done. He emphasized the importance of maintaining faith and believing in a better future. Furthermore, he identified agriculture as a key engine of development and called for greater citizen involvement in this strategic sector, envisioning a united, joyful, reconciled, and productive Angola.
