Cabinda: Health authorities in Cabinda province confirmed on Thursday the records of seven new cases of monkeypox.
According to Angola Press News Agency, provincial Secretary of Health Ruben de Fátima Buco reported a total of 16 positive cases since the disease first appeared in the region, with 13 cases in Cabinda municipality and three in Liambo.
Health technicians are actively monitoring eight families who had contact with the infected individuals. Buco reassured that no deaths have been reported in the province due to monkeypox and urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that the situation is under control.
In relation to Ebola, health authorities in the province have increased epidemiological surveillance and prevention efforts to prevent any cases from entering the region. This follows an outbreak of Ebola in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Cabinda, with a population of over 903,000, shares extensive land, sea, and river borders with the DRC.
