Car Accidents in Malanje Result in 114 Fatalities in 2025

Malanje: The head of the Department of Traffic and Road Safety in Malanje, Chief Superintendent Jos© Neto, disclosed that the province experienced 114 deaths due to car accidents in 2025 during the conclusion of the 8th Session of the Provincial Council of Roads and Traffic Management.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Malanje recorded a total of 385 traffic accidents over the year, which resulted in 98 deaths and 578 injuries, marking an increase from the previous year. Pedestrian accidents accounted for 130 incidents, causing 45 deaths and 134 injuries. Other common accidents involved collisions between mopeds, fixed obstacles, and interactions between cars and motorcycles.

In response to these statistics, Jos© Neto announced initiatives to improve road safety. These include launching awareness campaigns in schools and churches about safe crossing, introducing speed control measures using radars along highways, and imposing fines on motorcycle taxi drivers who transport more than one passenger. He noted the installation of speed cameras on BR 230 to monitor vehicle and motorcycle taxi driver speeds.

Malanje Governor Marcos Nhunga highlighted the importance of enhancing road safety measures and emphasized the mandatory use of helmets to lower motorcycle-related fatalities. The Provincial Council for Roads and Traffic Management, which includes vice governors, a delegate from the Ministry of the Interior, deputy commanders of the Provincial Command of the National Police, and directors of Provincial Offices, continues to work on these critical safety initiatives.
