Luanda: At least 74,000 hectares are being cultivated in the municipality of Chicungo, southern Hula Province, where harvests of 45,000 tons of various products are expected, with the current agricultural year officially beginning Monday.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the campaign launch took place in the village of Nd³ngua, led by the municipal administrator of Chicungo, Ms. Ilda Chiela, who highlighted the importance of family farming as a pillar of local development and food security.
The administrator revealed that for the current Agricultural Campaign, Chicungo prepared more than 74,000 hectares for family farming, with the prospect of a production exceeding 45,000 tons. This reflects the continued commitment of local authorities to strengthening the productive sector.
Currently, the municipality has 20 agricultural associations, six cooperatives, and more than 20,000 individual producers, duly registered for this campaign. These numbers demonstrate the strong participation of rural communities in agricultural activity.
During the act, Ilda Chiela reinforced the recommendations for producers to invest in more resistant crops, considering the prolonged period of irregular rainfall. Crop diversification and rotation were also highlighted as fundamental strategies to guarantee better harvests and productive sustainability.
As part of the promotion of family farming, eight tons of agricultural inputs were distributed. This gesture is aimed at directly supporting producers and contributing to the social and economic growth of peasant families.
The municipality of Chicungo is located 100 kilometers to the east of the province's chief town, Lubango.
