Cuanza sul: The Chinese company Sino-Ord has announced plans to invest USD 1.5 billion in agricultural projects in Mussende municipality, in the central Cuanza-Sul province, its executive director, Vivaldo Ramos, said on Monday. Ramos made the announcement following a meeting with Cuanza-Sul's local governor, Narciso Benedito, indicating that the investment will focus on producing sugarcane, corn, and cassava. According to Angola Press News Agency, Ramos stated that an initial investment of 750 million dollars is planned for an area of 100,000 hectares of arable land, with a focus on industrial-scale production and marketing. He emphasized that Mussende municipality has favorable conditions for investment, including arable land and the potential to capture water from the Kwanza River and energy from the Kapanda Dam. These factors ensure the project's sustainability. Ramos added that the initial construction phase of the project could generate 400 direct jobs, a figure set to rise to 850 national jobs and ar ound 200 foreign workers during the production phase. Sino-Ord operates in Angola as an industrial complex with a focus on the province of Bengo, where it has factories producing mosaics, tiles, aluminium, and glass. The company is committed to diversifying local production, creating jobs, and expanding exports to the African market.
