Community Organisations In Elgeyo Marakwet Receive Sh2million FundingMinisterial working session discusses solutions to revive sugar beet system

Community-based organisations (CBOs) in Elgeyo Marakwet County have benefited from Sh2, 077, 615 funding to undertake micro-economic activities and foster sustainable growth within local communities. The County Woman Representative Caroline Ngelechei emphasised the significance of the support, stating, 'This support will greatly boost many groups, among them Asis Dancers CBO, which was present during the disbursement.' Ng'elechei urged all beneficiaries to prudently utilise the funds to expand their activities and enhance their socio-economic impact. The cheques were distributed during a leadership training session sponsored by the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), where over 70 women participated in the training, which aimed at enhancing their leadership skills and equipping them with the necessary tools for effective community engagement. Ngelechei highlighted the importance of training, stating, 'Training gives the beneficiaries an upper hand in managing the funds they have been allocated by NGAAF.' Anne Koech, a beneficiary of NGAAF funds and training from KEWOPA, echoed this sentiment, emphasising how the training would assist them in managing both the allocated funds and their existing businesses. Two women self-help groups, Upendo Women Self-Help Group and Ebenezer Women Self-Help Group from Katalel, received essential equipment to boost their economic activities. Upendo Women Self Help Group received a posho mill, while Ebenezer Women Self Help Group acquired a milk freezer, both donated by Ngelechei. Phanice Cherotich, a member of Upendo Women Self Help Group, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting, 'We are looking forward to registering boosted income that will help elevate our livelihood.' Emphasis was placed on the need to secure the country's needs of this commodity, particularly given the profound shifts in the global value chain in this area, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry. Two additional produts are extracted from sugar beet. They are molasses which are used as a raw and basic material in the production of baker's yeast and industrial alcohol and sugar beet pomace, used as feed to promote milk production in cows as well as in an agricultural land development.
