Court Convicts 21 Defendants in AGT 2025 Financial Scandal

Luanda: The court has delivered its verdict in the AGT 2025 case, convicting 21 defendants while acquitting six individuals. The convicted parties were found guilty of defrauding the Angolan state of over 100 billion kwanzas, marking one of the country's most significant financial scandals.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the prominent figures among those convicted include Alpio Joo, Pedro Lumingo, Tiago dos Santos, and Luciano Ferreira, who received the highest sentences ranging from eight to nine years and six months of effective imprisonment. The court imposed sentences for various crimes, including embezzlement, money laundering, and undue advantage. However, certain charges, such as computer fraud, tax evasion, and unauthorized access to computer systems, were not proven in some cases, leading to partial acquittals.

Out of the 27 defendants, six were acquitted, including Solange Nunes, due to insufficient evidence. Four of the convicted individuals received suspended sentences of up to four years. The companies implicated in the case have been ordered to pay fines related to tax fraud. Additionally, the responsible defendants and entities are required to compensate the State, with the amounts exceeding six billion kwanzas, plus legal interest.

The court declared that all assets seized during the investigation are forfeited to the State, including funds held in bank accounts. The convicted parties are also mandated to pay court fees, ranging from 400,000 to two million kwanzas. In response to the court's decision, the defendants' lawyers have filed an appeal.

The announcement of the sentence in the courtroom was met with strong emotions, particularly from the family members of those convicted, highlighting the case's profound impact on those involved.
