Luanda: The death toll from the road accident that occurred on Sunday in Cabo Ledo, Icolo e Bengo province, has risen to 11, announced the Health Minister, Silvia Lutucuta, on Tuesday in Luanda. The number was increased by the death of student Zolandia Solongo Lourenço, 24 years old, who did not survive a head injury. According to Angola Press News Agency, the accident initially claimed 10 lives and injured 34 others when it took place on National Road (EN)100/South. The incident happened around 5:00 am when a Yutong brand bus, operated by the Macon company and traveling from Lubango, Huila province, veered off the road and overturned, carrying 42 passengers. During a visit to the injured at the Prenda Hospital, the minister reported cases of mild, moderate, and severe traumas, including thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic injuries, as well as fractures in the upper and lower limbs. She announced that 26 patients remain hospitalized in various hospital units in the capital, and reassured that the hospitals have adequate human and technical resources to provide specialized medical assistance. The swift response was credited with saving many lives. The Health Minister also stated that the Ministry of Health has established a commission to manage the situation, involving different government departments. Teams are actively providing psychological and social support to the families of the victims. At the hospital, the minister reviewed the clinical condition of the hospitalized patients, reinforcing the institutional commitment to medical assistance for the victims and expressing solidarity with the affected families.
