Draft law to combat doping in sport examined by parliamentary committee

The Committee on Education, Vocational Training, Scientific Research, Youth and Sport of the Assembly of People's Representatives (ARP), on Friday, held a hearing with the Minister of Youth and Sport, Kamel Déguiche, as part of the ongoing examination of the draft law on the fight against doping in sport. The Minister took the opportunity to review the main objectives of the bill, which he explained was part of his department's efforts to keep abreast of developments in the fight against doping at international level, particularly following the publication of the International Convention against Doping in Sport for the year 2021. The Convention requires all national structures and institutions responsible for the fight against doping to bring their legislation into line with current international standards. Déguiche also outlined a number of provisions contained in the draft anti-doping law, particularly those in line with the measures required by the international convention. "The fight against doping i s a shared responsibility and requires the combined efforts of all those involved, as well as those of the National Agency and other structures responsible for education and prevention. For their part, the MPs stressed the need for Tunisia to start reviewing and amending the legal texts governing the fight against doping, including Law 54 of 2007, in order to avoid possible sanctions against Tunisia. The ARP committee will continue its examination of the draft law on the fight against doping in sport next Monday, the ARP announced. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
