Farming Producers Trained on MOSAP 3 Projects in Lunda-Sul

Lunda-sul: At least 123 small farming producers from the municipalities of Cassengo, Muangueji, Dala, Saurimo, and Sombo, in the province of Lunda-Sul, participated on Monday in a workshop on the MOSAP 3 project. The workshop, promoted by the Institute for Agricultural Development (IDA), lasted one day and focused on addressing topics related to environmental and social risks, as well as the general and provincial framework of the projects.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the director of the provincial office for farming in Lunda-Sul, Nelson Senguetali, stated that the event aimed to provide important information to guide agricultural and livestock projects in the province with the implementation of the MOSAP 3 project. The activity also sought to clarify the creation of spaces for sharing and dialogue structures with project stakeholders, focusing on the operation and procedure of access channels to suggestion mechanisms in the implementation areas.

Nelson Senguetali highlighted that in Lunda-Sul, the Mosap 3 project, set to be implemented in 2025, will feature 179 field schools. These schools constitute a rural extension and education methodology based on practical learning, aimed at sustainability, food security, and techniques to help small farmers increase incomes.

On a related note, Gilberto Calenga, the monitoring and evaluation specialist of the MOSAP 3 project, emphasized that the project in the province has already registered three thousand small agricultural and livestock producers. Calenga pointed out that MOSAP 3 includes several components, with a particular focus on capacity building and institutional development. The project aims to strengthen the capacity and resilience of small agricultural and livestock producers and intensify agriculture and livestock farming, as well as enhance links with the domestic market across municipalities and provinces.

Calenga further explained that MOSAP 3 aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of small-scale farmers in areas related to productivity and marketing, along with climate-sensitive nutritional practices and technologies. The MOSAP 3 Project is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), with the objective of supporting the capacity building of farming communities in cultivation techniques through Field Schools.
