First Lady of Angola Calls for Institutional Support to Protect Child and Youth Violence Victims

Luanda: The First Lady of Angola, Ana Dias Louren§o, appealed to public and private institutions on Wednesday to support the protection of victims of violence against children and youth, emphasizing this as a critical commitment to Angola.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Ana Louren§o made these remarks at the closing of a technical meeting to review the Action Plan of the "We Are All Equal" Campaign. She stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved as long as violence, silence, and impunity against children and adolescents persist.

The First Lady highlighted that combating child and youth violence requires integrated and continuous strategies supported by public policies and institutional cooperation. She emphasized the need for continuity, coherence, adequate resources, and permanent engagement from all stakeholders.

Ana Louren§o further stated that a society educating for equality prevents violence and that protecting children is integral to securing the future. She reiterated her commitment to fostering inclusive policies, effective systems for victim protection, and a culture of dignity and shared responsibility.

She also noted that the conclusion of the 'We Are All Equal' campaign should signify a shift towards a new phase of collective responsibility. The campaign, originating from the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), united various institutions and partners to promote gender equality and reduce inequalities across Africa.

The First Lady pointed out that the initiative has achieved significant progress in protecting victims of child and youth violence by mobilizing strategic state sectors, enhancing coordination among key institutions, and promoting dialogue with community and religious leaders.

She concluded by recognizing both the successes and ongoing challenges of the 'We Are All Equal' campaign, launched on August 9, 2024. The campaign aligns with the 5th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which aims to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls.
