Cabinda: The governor of Cabinda, Suzana de Abreu, emphasized the significance of Carnival in preserving and conveying the historical and cultural heritage of the region to younger generations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Suzana de Abreu spoke to the press following the 2026 provincial Carnival parade. She acknowledged the effective manner in which young people have embraced the region's cultural traditions through music, dances, and various cultural expressions.
The governor urged the groups to maintain their efforts in promoting authenticity in art, culture, and science to reinforce and revive the cultural, moral, and civic values that define the people of the region. She underscored the importance of experiencing Carnival to understand cultural identity and recognize the elements that unify and identify Angolans as one people. Abreu commended the quality of messages conveyed by the Carnival groups, which included themes such as traffic accidents, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
The governor regarded all participating groups as winners for bringing joy to the population through dances, songs, and theatrical performances, demonstrating the possibility of celebrating Carnival in the streets. "This demonstrates that culture is a vehicle for messages that identifies us and unites us in the pursuit of work and the development of the country," she stated.
