Dongo: The Huila government has intensified efforts to prevent new cholera infections in the municipality of Dongo, where four cases are reported daily. These efforts include increased mobilization, calcium hypochlorite distribution, and health surveillance.
According to Angola Press News Agency, six new cases of cholera were reported in the Cahali mining area of Dongo in the last 24 hours alone, bringing the number of hospitalized patients to 10. The director of the Provincial Health Office in Huila, Paulo Luvangamo, stated that an emergency meeting had been held over the weekend to mobilize technicians from Dongo and the surrounding municipalities, including Cuvango, Jamba Mineira, Matala, and Capelongo, to plan a response to the outbreak.
Luvangamo explained that since Sunday, work has been underway to mobilize resources, distribute calcium hypochlorite, and carry out surveillance activities to contain the source of the infection in Hula. He noted that Dongo's situation might no longer be unique, as other mining provinces have experienced similar issues, but frequent new cases in Hula continue to put the province at risk.
Luvangamo emphasized that the solution lies in more thorough work by the multisectoral commission, with each body in the group contributing to mitigating the situation, rather than relying on just one or two sectors.
