Joo Louren§o Presents Angola as a Top Tourist Destination

Luanda: The Head of State, Joo Louren§o, stated on Thursday in Luanda that Angola has unique conditions to establish itself as one of the most promising tourist destinations in Africa and appealed to national and foreign investors to take advantage of the opportunities available in the sector. Speaking at the opening of the Investment Summit Angola 2026, the Head of State stressed that tourism is one of the most dynamic economic activities worldwide, due to its capacity to generate jobs, attract investment, stimulate entrepreneurship, and promote local development.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o, who was speaking to government representatives, businesspeople, and experts from various countries, emphasized that holding the forum in Angola represents recognition of the progress made by the country in the areas of political stability, strengthening institutions, improving the business environment, and diversifying the economy. He stated that the focus on tourism is part of the national strategy to reduce dependence on oil and promote sectors with a high multiplier effect, capable of creating wealth, adding value to local communities, and projecting the country's image abroad.

The Head of State highlighted the country's tourism potential, mentioning the extensive Atlantic coast, natural parks and reserves, rivers and lakes, biodiversity, as well as the country's historical, cultural, and gastronomic heritage. The Kalandula falls, the black stones of Pungo Andongo, the Namib desert, the Tundavala rift, and various conservation areas, are among the main attractions, Joo Louren§o mentioned as important sites, arguing that the combination of these resources places Angola in a privileged position to develop nature, cultural, adventure, beach, and business tourism.

However, the statesman highlighted that tourism potential only gains true meaning when converted into concrete investment and development opportunities, which is why the Government has intensified investments in strategic infrastructure to foster the growth of the sector. The Investment Summit Angola 2026 (Global Tourism Forum) is taking place in Luanda and brings together investors, business leaders, and policymakers from various countries in order to evaluate the future of tourism and investment opportunities in the African continent.

Angola offers vast tourism potential due to its great diversity of landscapes, climates, and biomes, ranging from tropical beaches and the vast Namib desert to the imposing Maiombe forest and extensive savannas. The country stands out for its nature tourism, adventure tourism, and cultural exploration. Angola possesses a rich diversity of fauna and flora, notably the Qui§ama, Cangandala, Luengue-Luiana, and Iona National Parks, which represent important destinations for wildlife observation and ecotourism.

Among the main natural attractions are the Kalandula falls in Malanje province and the Tundavala rift in Hula, both recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of Angola. It also boasts unique geological formations, such as the moon viewpoint, located about 40 kilometers south of Luanda. The extensive Angolan coast offers beaches of great beauty. Mussulo and Luanda Island are among the most sought-after destinations for leisure activities, water sports, and stays in hotels near the capital.

The capital, Luanda, concentrates an important historical and cultural heritage, notably the So Miguel Fortress, the National Museum of Slavery, and the rich Angolan gastronomy, of which mufete (grilled fish with salad, banana, and baked sweet potato) is one of the most emblematic dishes. With a combination of natural resources, historical heritage, and cultural diversity, Angola is establishing itself as a destination with high potential for the development of sustainable tourism and for attracting national and international visitors.
