Madrid: Angolan diplomat Josefa Sacko recently advocated, in the Spanish capital, Madrid, for the need to strengthen international cooperation in the agricultural sector, as well as the promotion of more resilient agri-food systems.
According to Angola Press News Agency, these positions were expressed during a meeting with representatives of the African and Caribbean Group accredited in Spain, with the aim of presenting the candidacy of Angolan diplomat Josefa Sacko for the position of director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The press release from the diplomatic representation in Spain, accessed by ANGOP today, indicated that the event was an opportunity to publicize the path, vision, and priorities of the Angolan candidate who could lead one of the most important multilateral organizations dedicated to food security, sustainable agriculture, and rural development.
On the occasion, the candidate also advocated for a greater push for sustainable development and strengthening the role of FAO in combating hunger, poverty, and the impacts of climate change. She also highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation as fundamental instruments for sharing experiences, mobilizing investments, and accelerating the implementation of practical solutions for the benefit of developing countries.
During her intervention, Ambassador Josefa Sacko demonstrated mastery of the subject related to FAO and presented a new vision for an organization closer to the needs of Member States, capable of transforming technical knowledge into concrete results for the populations. Spain was also highlighted as a strategic bridge between Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Mediterranean region, being able to play an important role in building international partnerships in favor of food security and sustainable development.
According to the note, Ambassador Josefa Leonel Correia Sacko has an outstanding professional career, accumulating more than 35 years of experience in the areas of agriculture, rural development, environmental governance, and international cooperation. Between 2017 and 2025, she served as African Union (AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment, leading important continental initiatives related to food security, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
