Lodwar Municipality Board To Commence Policy Development On Service Delivery

The Lodwar Municipality Board will commence the process of developing policies and regulations on service delivery as a strategic focus for the coming 2024-2025 financial year.

Section 20(1)(b) of the Kenya Urban Areas Management Act of 2011 states that the Municipality Board shall develop and adopt policies, plans, strategies, and programmes and may set targets for the delivery of services.

During a board meeting, the chair of the Municipality Board Christine Tatoi said that the approach would assist in setting standards for service delivery.

‘The absence of policies and regulations implies that the municipal administration cannot set standards for the quality of services delivered to clients. We have a duty to navigate the process and produce relevant policies and corresponding guidelines for the benefit of the residents and the prosperity of Lodwar,’ said Tatoi.

In addition to the need for policies to bridge notable gaps, the meeting also deliberated and made decisions on the municipality’s budgetary a
llocation, priority projects targeted in the 2024-2025 year, and routine programmes on operations and maintenance.

The board meeting was attended by Boniface Lokuruka (Vice-Chair) and members Ambrose Merinyang, Moses Mario, Roseline Ngilebei, Margaret Nabali, and Marian Lotieng who also serves as the Chief Officer for Urban Areas Management.
