Luanda: More than 13,000 tourists visited Lunda-Sul in 2025, marking a significant increase in visitors to the eastern province. At least 13,778 tourists, both national and international, explored the region, representing an increase of 1,836 visitors from the previous year, as reported by Felisbela Sapato, the director of the provincial office of Culture and Tourism.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the rise in tourist numbers is attributed to various activities organized by the Provincial Government and the discovery of new tourist areas. These initiatives have successfully attracted tourists from across the globe, allowing them to interact with the local population and savor the region's traditional cuisine.
Key attractions that drew visitors included the Tchihumbwe River Wonder, Guida Janu¡rio River Beach, Ro§a do Tio Mola, and the Catoca Mine. Despite the successes, Sapato noted that poor road conditions remain a significant challenge for the tourism sector, emphasizing the necessity for infrastructural improvements.
Looking ahead to 2026, there are plans to register new tourist areas, promote domestic tourism, and integrate these sites into the "Visit Angola" National Tourist Route. Additionally, the opening of a tourist information center is on the agenda to further enhance visitor experience. Currently, the Culture and Tourism Office in Lunda-Sul manages 25 tourist zones.
