Luanda: The pastor of the United Methodist Church in Angola, Mateus Francisco, on Saturday, in Luanda, called on Christians to live Easter based on love for others, as it is essential for the transformation of Angolan society.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the religious leader stated that the date, more than a liturgical celebration, should be understood as a time of prayer, repentance, and reconciliation with God. He emphasized that Christians are called to renew their commitment to love, service, and dedication to others, noting that although the majority of the population identifies as Christian, there are signs of weakening of the fundamental values of the faith.
He recalled that during the civil war period, the spirit of solidarity and unity was more evident, contrasting it with some current contexts. Despite this, the pastor believes that Easter continues to be an opportunity for change, arguing that Christians must take an active role in building a more just society, based on respect, peace, and love for others.
Mateus Francisco called for the authentic experience of faith and stated that 'only through a true practice of Christian teachings will it be possible to transform lives and contribute to a better Angola.'
