Luanda: A technical mission from the Project Implementation Unit (UIP), affiliated with the Ministry of Health, recently engaged with 440 Angolan scholarship recipients in Brazil. These individuals are undergoing advanced training in General and Family Medicine, Nursing, and various specializations, including masters and doctoral programs.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the delegation was led by Mateus Guilherme, Director-General of the Institute of Health Specialization (IES), and included experts such as Idalina Gomes, Maria Lºcia Chicapa, Albano Eugªnio, and Adam Chimuanji. The UIP press note distributed on Saturday highlighted that the mission involved a thorough evaluation of scholarships concerning pedagogical methodologies and clinical conditions.
The mission also focused on the signing of the Code of Ethical Conduct, which reaffirms values of integrity and professionalism. Technical inspections were conducted in 'UBS and CAPS' facilities to identify gaps and propose corrective actions. Discussions also took place regarding the adaptation of Brazil's 'SUS' to the Angolan context to enhance health system resilience.
The visit led to several commitments, including the development of more robust supervision systems, immediate adjustments to clinical practices, the introduction of new classes in priority areas, and strengthened cooperation between Brazil and Angola involving institutions such as USP, Unicamp, and Fiocruz.
The Angolan government, through the Ministry of Health, underscores that the consolidated training plan for 2024 to 2027 will be crucial for reinforcing the national health system, aiming for universal coverage in collaboration with partners like Brazil, Cuba, and Portugal.
The Human Resources Training Project for Universal Health Coverage in Angola (P180631), initiated in April 2024 with World Bank funding, aims to train 38,000 professionals by 2028. The funder reiterates its commitment to developing human capital in Angola, viewing the program as vital for the sustainability of the health system and the country's advancement.
