Luanda: The national secretary for cooperation, foreign relations, and resource mobilization of the Mozambican Youth Organization, Milvan Armando Muiuan, emphasized the significance of actively involving young people in diplomatic and international decision-making spheres during the Pan-African Youth Summit.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Muiuan noted on the summit's second day that there has been visible progress in integrating youth into the realm of diplomacy. He confidently stated that young people are on a path to achieving greater representation in diplomatic roles. He acknowledged that while this is an ongoing process, it is an attainable goal.
Milvan Armando Muiuan, speaking about Mozambique, pointed out that a generational transition is currently underway, with the government showing openness to including youth in decision-making platforms. He also praised the engagement of young Angolans present at the summit, expressing his admiration for their eagerness to contribute to Angola's diplomatic and economic advancement. With 65% of Angola's population being young, Muiuan emphasized that youth play a crucial role in policymaking.
Despite the advancements, Muiuan highlighted the need for Angola and other regional countries to bolster the promotion of patriotism. She stressed that the continent's current context, characterized by external pressures and internal challenges, necessitates a more aware and critically thinking youth who are committed to national values.
Esther Chaekela from the Namibian delegation also shared her thoughts, describing the summit as a valuable platform for exchanging experiences. Chaekela underscored the importance of raising awareness about the use of technology to avoid distorting the African essence.
The Pan-African Youth Summit, taking place from the 9th to the 12th of the current month in Luanda, will conclude with the approval of the Luanda Declaration. This declaration will be presented to the African Union and its member states as a youth-driven proposal addressing the continent's significant challenges.
