Namibe’s Agricultural Production Falls by 3.6% in First Quarter

Namibe: Farmers in Namibe harvested a total of 121,134 tons of various products in the first three months of this year, representing a 3.6% reduction compared to the same period last year, when 125,698 tons were produced. Speaking to ANGOP on Monday, Domingos Raimundo, the director of the provincial Agriculture and Livestock Office, said the reduction was due to the floods that devastated the province and inundated extensive cultivated areas, causing significant losses in the harvest. According to Angola Press News Agency, among the cultivated crops, cereals stood out with 5,401 tons, followed by legumes with 1,456 tons, roots and tubers with 14,940 tons, and fruit with 3,451 tons. Domingos Raimundo highlighted that a total of 52,953 families were involved in the production process during the first quarter, of which 18,000 were assisted and supported by targeted programs. Regarding beef production, the director reported that 120 head of cattle were slaughtered during the period in question, resulting in 17, 904 kilograms of beef being made available. This represents a 27 percent reduction compared to the same period of the previous year. Additionally, Domingos Raimundo stated that egg production increased by 71.8 percent, with 5,395,050 eggs made available.
