Namibia Seeks Angola’s Oil and Water Expertise to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Luanda: Namibia aims to acquire Angola's experience in oil and gas exploration to strengthen cooperation between the two states, the Namibian ambassador to Angola, Leonard Lipumbu, has said. The diplomat made the statement at the end of a courtesy meeting with the governor of Bié, Celeste Adolfo, adding that Angola, being a power in Sub-Saharan Africa in the field of oil and gas exploration, Namibia needs Angola's experience to leverage the sector. According to Angola Press News Agency, the ambassador announced that a high-level delegation should arrive in Luanda within a week to maintain contacts with government authorities and those responsible for oil areas, with emphasis on the National Fuel Company of Angola (SONANGOL E.P). Leonard Lipumbu stated that Namibia intends to establish agreements with Angola regarding the distribution of water from the Cafu canal in Cunene province, in order to ensure the consumption of this liquid by Namibian communities. 'Namibia does not have a river, and our government w ants to establish agreements with Angola, as it is quite rich in water resources,' the diplomat said. Leonard Lipumbu said that the main objective is to seek areas of partnership in the agriculture, tourism, and commerce sectors, among others, so that, in the near future, investors can be mobilized in these areas for the benefit of both States. The governor of Bié, on her turn, reiterated the openness of the local authorities to investment, both national and foreign, especially in the areas of agriculture, commerce, hospitality, tourism, among others. She took the opportunity to invite Namibian entrepreneurs to participate in the 3rd edition of Expo/Bié, which will take place in August of this year, to learn about the real potential that exists in this province, as well as to create business opportunities.
