Saurimo: Over 1,000 pilgrims from different parishes in the Diocese of Luena, located in Moxico province, are set to participate in the reception of Pope Leo XIV in the city of Saurimo, Lunda-Sul, on April 20.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the spokesperson for the preparatory commission of the Diocese of Luena, Father Nelson Cassanguiri, stated that registrations for the faithful are ongoing across various parishes to facilitate their travel to the Archdiocese of Saurimo.
Father Cassanguiri emphasized that the local church has secured the necessary support from the local government, which is providing public transport to convey the faithful from Luena and other dioceses in the central region to Saurimo. He assured that all measures are in place to ensure the event occurs safely and maintains an atmosphere of faith and hope.
The Government of the province of Moxico recently announced its plan to mobilize 40 buses to guarantee transportation for believers heading to the neighboring province of Lunda-Sul. The provincial governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, highlighted that Luena's strategic location will enable it to accommodate thousands of faithful from various provinces in the central region.
The pilgrims will then proceed to the Archdiocese of Saurimo, where they will welcome the Supreme Pontiff. In light of the preparations, the government official noted that Angola is a nation dedicated to peace, open to the world, and committed to economic growth and sustainable development.
This marks the third visit by a Supreme Pontiff to Angola, following the visits of John Paul II in 1992 and Benedict XVI in 2009.
