Luanda: President Joo Louren§o highlighted on Friday the timely debut of the Luanda Science and Technology Park. He emphasized that driving Angola's economic and social progress requires continuous, growing investment in science, innovation, and technology.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the President stated, "The country, to develop, must pay attention to science and technology. Young people and companies will ultimately be the main beneficiaries of this Science and Technology Park," after inaugurating the project on Friday in Luanda.
The President expressed satisfaction with the start of operations of the infrastructure and asked future users to preserve the installed equipment, which he described as state-of-the-art. Joo Louren§o said the park will be open to national and foreign companies, without any discrimination, and highlighted its potential to boost innovation and technological development in the country.
When questioned about the evolution of the quality of education in Angola, he expressed optimism, adding that the country is moving in the right direction, as exemplified by the health sector, which has registered significant improvements in recent years. Regarding funding for scientific research, the president highlighted the existence of the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FUNDECIT), while acknowledging the need to evaluate its level of utilization.
As for support for startups, the president added that the State will prioritize projects that demonstrate viability and growth prospects, given the high number of entrepreneurial initiatives emerging in the country. Joo Louren§o highlighted the investments made by the government in recent years, in infrastructure construction and in the training and recruitment of personnel for the higher education and scientific research sectors.
The president announced that the University Hospital of Agostinho Neto University should become operational in 2027. He also informed that the infrastructure for the Institute of Health Sciences and the faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Sports, and Humanities will be built on the same university campus. The Luanda Science and Technology Park is considered a strategic infrastructure for strengthening scientific research, innovation, and youth entrepreneurship, contributing to the diversification of the national economy and the consolidation of the country's technological ecosystem.
