Luanda: The swimming tournament of the African Youth Games (AYG) has reached its third day of competition, with host nation Angola eagerly seeking its first medal in the sport. The competition has been predominantly ruled by South Africa, which has secured a total of 22 medals, including 11 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze. According to Angola Press News Agency, South African swimmers continued their dominance on Saturday by claiming gold and silver in the 200-meter freestyle. Bailey Lambert led the race with a time of 2:06.85, followed closely by teammate Giuliana Vyncke, who clocked in at 2:07.86. The bronze medal was awarded to Zimbabwe's Alexis Johnsen, who finished with a time of 2:12.26. Angola's athletes made commendable efforts in the competition. Rhanya Santo finished in 8th place in the women's 200-meter freestyle, recording a time of 2:17.77. In the men's category, Santiago Guimaraes also finished 6th, with a time of 2:05.08. Other Angolan athletes, Kenenise Vongo and Oleksander Zhukov, reached the f inals in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter backstroke, finishing 7th and 8th, respectively. In the mixed 4x100m medley relay, the Angolan national team finished 6th with a time of 4:40.19. The event was once again dominated by South Africa, which took the gold, while Algeria earned silver and Tunisia secured the bronze. South Africa also claimed victory in the men's 100m breaststroke, whereas Algeria won gold in the 200-meter backstroke.
