Terrorists’ escape from Mornaguia prison: Popular Current wants details of incident

The Popular Current party has called on the official authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the escape of five terrorists from Mornaguia prison and to reveal the outcome of their arrest or that of some of them, party spokesperson Mohsen Nabti said. This call comes a day after videos were posted on social media showing the arrest of people who could be among the prisoners who escaped from Mornaguia prison last Tuesday. In a statement to TAP Monday, the Popular Current spokesman said that “the secrecy of the investigation does not mean giving free rein to rumours and chaotic information.” It called on the authorities to give their official version of the facts regarding the escape of the five prisoners. He said he did not understand “the state’s passivity in the face of the flood of rumors and false news” circulating on the Internet and its reluctance to give details of information circulating on social media. The spokesman for the Courant Populaire also called for the case to be clarified without jeopardising the progress of the investigation. Nabti criticised the lack of official confirmation of the identity of the person arrested on Sunday (referring to Ahmed Malki, alias “the Somali”), especially as the case concerns the alleged perpetrator of the assassination of the martyr Mohamed Brahmi, general coordinator of the Popular Current. The party is still waiting for an official press release from the Ministry of Interior on the matter. The Ministry of the Interior on October 31 announced the escape of five dangerous terrorists from the Mornaguia civil prison, two of whom were involved in the assassinations of the martyrs Mohamed Brahmi and Chokri Belaid. On February 6, 2013, Chokri Belaïd, Secretary-General of the Democratic Patriots’ Unified Party, was assassinated at close range outside his home in Tunis. On July 25 of the same year, MP and general coordinator of the Popular Current and member of the National Constituent Assembly, Mohamed Brahmi, was shot dead outside his home.
