Luanda: The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Africa (UNOCA), Abdou Abarry, praised the Angolan diplomacy in resolving regional and continental conflicts. Speaking to the press, following a meeting with the Angolan president and chairperson of the African Union, Joo Louren§o, the UN official stated that the Angolan Head of State has played a key role in peace processes in Africa, particularly in the crises in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Central African Republic (CAR).
According to Angola Press News Agency, Abdou Abarry highlighted that the Angolan Head of State's efforts in seeking peaceful solutions to conflicts have motivated the United Nations to monitor and support Angola. The Nigerien diplomat engaged in discussions with President Joo Louren§o on ways to enhance cooperation between Angola and the UN to foster peace, stability, and security in the Central African region. He described Angola as a "solution country" on the African continent.
Abdou Abarry mentioned that his visit to Angola marks the end of his mandate after leading UNOCA for three and a half years, choosing Angola as the first country for his farewell greetings. He expressed his intention to bid farewell to the President of the Republic and, through him, to the Angolan people, acknowledging their support for his mandate and the peace efforts in Central Africa.
During their meeting, the United Nations representative encouraged the Angolan Head of State to continue his active role in conflict mediation, especially in his capacity as the chairperson of the African Union. Abarry appealed for the continuation of dialogue and the pursuit of peaceful solutions.
The meeting also reiterated the United Nations' commitment to supporting Angola's efforts for peace, security, and regional stability. It emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the UN and UNOCA on conflict prevention and resolution initiatives in Central Africa and adjacent regions.
