Luanda: The United States Chargé d'Affaires in Angola, Shannon Nagy Cazeavi, on Monday described Angola as a fundamental strategic partner for building a 'stronger, safer and more prosperous' future. She made these remarks following a meeting with the President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço, emphasizing the commitment of both nations to deepen bilateral cooperation. According to Angola Press News Agency, the American diplomat outlined three fundamental pillars underpinning the relationship between Angola and the US: prosperity, security, and peace. These themes were central to her discussions with the Angolan Head of State. Cazeavi noted that the meeting was part of a regular dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, with specific focus on regional security and Angola's leadership role in the Great Lakes region, along with the Washington Agreements process for peace in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The cooperation between Washington and Luanda remains focused on regional stability and dev elopment, highlighting Angola's contributions to peace and security in Africa. The diplomatic relations between the two countries, established on May 19, 1993, have grown significantly, particularly in areas such as economy, security, energy, health, and regional development, forming a strategic partnership for both nations. A key component of economic cooperation is the Lobito Corridor project, which aims to enhance logistics and trade by connecting Angola to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. Funded with over US$553 million from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), this initiative seeks to lower logistics costs and strengthen global supply chains for critical minerals. It is part of the Global Infrastructure and Investment Partnership (GIIP), promoting sustainable infrastructure investments globally. In security and defense, Angola and the U.S. collaborate on regional stability and maritime protection in the Gulf of Guinea. This partnership includes military training, jo int exercises, and support for modernizing armed forces, with Angola recognized as a key player in promoting peace on the African continent. The cooperation extends to health and social development, with U.S. supported programs targeting HIV/AIDS and strengthening national health systems. Additional investments focus on education and sustainable development, particularly in the sectors linked to the Lobito Corridor. The United States also backs humanitarian demining and agricultural projects to improve mobility and economic opportunities. In the energy sector, the collaboration includes technical assistance and financing for renewable energy projects, directly impacting communities and industries. The Angola/US cooperation is deemed strategic for access to critical minerals essential for the energy transition, promoting regional stability, developing infrastructure, and supporting social and institutional growth.
