Quipungo: The World Food Programme (WFP) on Friday distributed more than 10 tons of food products to 271 families in the Mavinda 1 neighborhood, located in the municipal seat of Quipungo, Huíla province. This initiative is part of a program aimed at combating acute malnutrition. According to Angola Press News Agency, the action was carried out in collaboration with the non-governmental organization World Vision. This initiative supports the Executive's efforts to prevent and reduce malnutrition by conducting community screenings of children under five years old, as well as pregnant and lactating women who are nutritionally vulnerable. Beneficiaries of this program receive specific food supplements to aid in their nutritional stability and recovery. Neide Pereira, the interim head of the WFP for the Southern region, stated that the program encompasses a total of 703 families across the three communes of the municipality. Each household receives a kit that includes 60 kilograms of cornmeal, 20 kilograms of b eans, four liters of oil, and two kilograms of sugar. This supply is intended to last approximately two months. Neide Pereira emphasized that providing these products aims to mitigate the sale and sharing of nutritional supplements among family members, a common practice due to economic constraints, ensuring that therapeutic foods are used exclusively by those undergoing treatment.
