Women Encouraged to Invest in Academic Training for Leadership Roles

Icolo e bengo: The Director-General of the Calumbo Municipal Hospital, Janete Lopes, has called on women, particularly young women, to prioritize academic and vocational training. This encouragement comes as a part of initiatives during "Women's Month," aimed at empowering women to aspire to leadership roles and significantly contribute to national development. According to Angola Press News Agency, Lopes spoke about the importance of women dedicating themselves to their studies, especially those interested in joining the health sector and other traditionally male-dominated fields. She shared her personal journey, highlighting her role as an orthopedic doctor-a career path once limited to men-as an example of breaking gender barriers. Lopes emphasized that leadership goes beyond holding authoritative positions; it involves working collaboratively with colleagues to foster institutional growth. She shared her experiences of balancing multiple responsibilities as both a hospital director and a homemaker, urg ing women to harmonize these roles effectively. The official also expressed her multifaceted nature, describing herself as a demanding yet supportive leader, a friend to her children, and an individual who enjoys reading, cooking, exercising, and music. Augusta da Costa, the municipal director of Social Action and Gender Equality, commended women for their ability to juggle various roles as leaders, mothers, teachers, and sisters. Writer and singer Zilda Fonte echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the challenges women face in balancing family and professional responsibilities. She underscored the vital role women play as the nation's backbone and encouraged perseverance through tough times, urging women to remain steadfast in their ambitions.
