Angola Advocates Union of Extractive Industry in Economic Diversification

Luanda: The chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Gas, Oil and Minerals of Angola (CCIGPMA), Isabel Fonseca, advocated on Thursday in Luanda for the creation of a single platform for the extractive industry, with a view to strengthening cooperation between the oil, gas, and mining sectors.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Fonseca emphasized that these sectors face common challenges and should work in an integrated manner, particularly in areas such as local content, infrastructure, logistics, and financing. This approach is seen as crucial for the country's economic diversification efforts.

Isabel Fonseca noted that Angola is actively exploring 34 rare minerals and is also making investments in natural gas, renewable energies, and biodiesel, as part of its strategy to diversify the economy. This diversification comes amid a broader effort to reduce dependency on traditional oil exports and to develop new revenue streams.

In addition, M¡rio Santos, the vice-president of the Board of Directors of Impretec, remarked on the country's trajectory towards reindustrialization. He pointed out that modernizing the extractive sector and enhancing human capital are critical components of this process.

Sebastio Panzo, CEO of Bumbar Mining, underscored the significance of partnering with the Chamber, emphasizing that collaboration between entrepreneurs and investors is vital to attracting financing and bolstering the extractive industry. He highlighted that such integration is essential for the sustainable growth of the sector.

The Extractive and Energy Connect event, organized by CCIGPMA, convened key stakeholders in the extractive and energy sectors. This initiative provided a platform for dialogue, partnerships, and the exploration of business opportunities, aligning with Angola's strategic push towards economic diversification.
