Angola and Gabon to Hold 3rd Joint Commission in Luanda


Luanda: President Joo Louren§o announced on Wednesday that he discussed with his Gabonese counterpart the holding of the third bilateral Joint Commission, with the aim of discussing issues related to maritime borders. Speaking to the press, after the signing of three cooperation protocols between Angola and Gabon, the Angolan Head of State said that, during the private meeting, the talks focused on several areas of common interest, with emphasis on the need to resume joint dialogue mechanisms.



According to Angola Press News Agency, the holding of the third Angola-Gabon Joint Commission in Luanda stands out among the points agreed upon, with the objective of evaluating the state of bilateral cooperation and giving greater dynamism to relations between the two countries. Joo Louren§o stressed that the meeting will be particularly important in addressing issues related to maritime borders, a process already initiated, but which requires continuity to reach a mutually satisfactory solution.



The Angolan statesman noted that strengthening institutional and technical dialogue will allow for the consolidation of understandings on the common maritime space, contributing to stability, good neighborliness, and the sustainable use of resources. Joo Louren§o expressed confidence that the commitments made with his Gabonese counterpart will be translated into concrete actions capable of raising the level of bilateral relations and promoting mutual benefits.



In addition, the Angolan president mentioned that he requested Gabon’s support for the candidacy of Angolan Josefa Sacko for the position of chairperson of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for the 2027-2031 term. According to the Head of State, the President of Gabon, Brice Oligui Nguema, guaranteed his positive support for the Angolan candidacy. The president remarked that the Gabonese leader was pleased with the symbolism of seeing a citizen of the continent assume the leadership of an important international organization in the food security field.
