Luanda: The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, reaffirmed in Luanda his country's desire to strengthen cooperation with Angola in the oil sector, given Angola's experience in managing energy resources. The Gabonese statesman was speaking at the Presidential Palace after an official meeting with the Angolan Head of State, Joo Louren§o, as part of his three-day state visit to the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the statesman noted that Angola and Gabon share similar economic characteristics, highlighting the importance of the oil sector in both economies. The Gabonese President also valued the role of the Lobito Corridor as a structuring project for regional integration and underlined the impact of the infrastructure on the development of Central Africa. He expressed interest in the future extension of the logistics corridor to Gabonese territory, as a way to strengthen the movement of people and goods in the sub-region.
During his speech, the Gabonese President highlighted the signing of three legal instruments between the two States, in the areas of agriculture and forestry, security and public order, and extradition, considered relevant to strengthening bilateral cooperation. The Gabonese statesman thanked Angola for its support in political coordination processes in the Central African region, as well as the role played by the Angolan Head of State in regional mediation initiatives. The Gabonese Head of State also offered condolences to the families affected by recent fires in Angola, expressing solidarity with the Angolan people.
The speech also included references to the commitment to multilateralism and the need for African solutions to the continent's challenges, especially in matters of peace and security. The President of Gabon congratulated Angola for organizing continental-scale events during its presidency of the African Union and for the role it played in promoting regional stability. On his second day in Angola, Thursday, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema will visit the Luanda Refinery, demonstrating Gabon's interest in deepening cooperation in the oil sector. The program also includes a visit to the Higher War College of the Angolan Armed Forces, as well as participation in a business forum at the EPIC SANA Hotel, which is expected to bring together economic operators from both countries. On Friday, the last day of the visit, official farewell ceremonies are scheduled at the Presidential Palace, followed by the statesman's return to his country.
