Angola Engages in African Biodiversity Summit to Boost Global Cooperation

Gaborone: Angola is participating in the first African Summit on Biodiversity, held from the 2nd to the 5th of this month in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. The summit aims to enhance global cooperation on biodiversity matters. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan delegation is led by the Minister of the Environment, Ana Paula de Carvalho Pereira. She represents President Joo Lourenço at this continental meeting, which operates under the theme "Valuing Africa's Biodiversity for Prosperity". The summit serves as an international strategic platform to bolster global cooperation focused on biodiversity preservation, ecosystem protection, and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. Participants are expected to deliberate on and approve specific measures for biodiversity recovery and conservation, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and existing multilateral environmental commitments of African countries. The event unites Heads of State and Government from African Union Member States, alongside development partners, private sector representatives, academics, civil society, women, and youth in a forum for inclusive dialogue and collaborative decision-making. A Final Declaration on Biodiversity will conclude the summit, encapsulating clear, ambitious, and achievable commitments by Member States. This declaration will aim to reinforce Africa's role in environmental defense and sustainable development across the continent.
