Angola Reaffirms Commitment to Promoting Peace in Africa

Luanda: Angolan Head of State Joo Louren§o reaffirmed on Friday that the country remains strongly committed to promoting peace and stability in Africa, with particular emphasis on the conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). President Joo Louren§o made these statements at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, during the New Year greeting ceremony of the Diplomatic Corps and international organizations accredited in Angola.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o, who is also the current President-in-Office of the African Union, simultaneously defended the reinforcement of multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in preserving the international order. He highlighted Angola's active involvement in the search for peaceful solutions to armed conflicts on the African continent, emphasizing its contribution to the pacification process in the DRC. This process culminated in the signing of the peace agreement with Rwanda in Washington, United States, on December 4, 2025.

The President described the agreement as a historic moment for the Great Lakes region, arguing that its full implementation by the parties involved is essential to guarantee lasting peace. On the same occasion, Joo Louren§o also called for compliance with the ceasefire negotiated in D³ha, Qatar, between the Government of the DRC and the M23 movement, encouraging the Congolese authorities and civil society to advance towards inter-Congolese dialogue without delay.
