Cairo: Angola participated on Monday in a gastronomic fair in Cairo, Egypt, commemorating Africa Day, celebrated on May 25, in an event promoted by a group of African ambassadors accredited to that North African country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the initiative brought together African diplomatic representatives and allowed for the exhibition of the continent's cultural and gastronomic diversity through the presentation of typical dishes, handicrafts, and other cultural expressions.
Angola presented "mufete," a traditional dish originating from Luanda Island, which aroused the interest and curiosity of the guests. The Angolan exhibition also included pieces of national handicrafts, with emphasis on the statuette of 'O Pensador' (The Thinker, in English), one of the main symbols of Angolan cultural identity and represented on the national currency.
The arena reserved for Angola also displayed literary works by authors such as Agostinho Neto and Uanhenga Xitu, as well as recordings by the music band Kituxi, providing visitors with a sample of the country's cultural richness. The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, and members of African communities residing in Cairo, also serving to strengthen ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation among African peoples.
Initially scheduled for May 30, the event was postponed to June 1 due to the holiday period associated with Eid Al-Adha, one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar, which marks the end of the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca. The celebrations of Africa Day in Egypt also included an official ceremony held on May 23 by the Egyptian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Higher Education, which brought together senior government officials, diplomats, and international guests.
