Angolan Ambassador to Australia Visits New South Wales

Luanda: Angola's Ambassador to Australia, António Luvualu de Carvalho, has been visiting the state of New South Wales since Tuesday as part of efforts to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. On July 14th, the diplomat had a conversation with Ben Franklin, President of the Legislative Council (Upper House) of the New South Wales Parliament, about matters of mutual interest and visited an exhibition commemorating the institution's 170th anniversary; it was founded on May 22, 1856. According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting took place in the Parliament's State Room. It was there that Queen Elizabeth II signed the Visitors' Book on February 4, 1954, during the visit that made her the first British monarch to open a parliamentary session in Australia. During the meeting, the Australian lawmaker highlighted the fact that the flag of the Republic of Angola had been raised at the Parliament for the first time-an event marking the importance Australia attaches to its relati ons with the Republic of Angola. In turn, Ambassador António Luvualu de Carvalho expressed his appreciation for the gesture and noted that the Angolan government also "values ??the important relationship it has with Australia," before signing the Visitors' Book. The head of the Angolan diplomatic mission to Australia took the opportunity to present Ben Franklin with a collection of works in English by the "greatest poet of Angolan literature"-the Nation's Founder, António Agostinho Neto.
