Luanda: The leaders of the National Assemblies of Angola and Portugal discussed on Friday in Luanda, mechanisms for strengthening political and administrative cooperation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Jose Aguiar-Branco, Speaker of the Assembly of Portugal, stated that the parties analyzed the work carried out by the Portugal-Angola Parliamentary Friendship Group, as well as ways to expand institutional collaboration. He highlighted the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy as a complement to traditional diplomacy.
Jos© Aguiar-Branco emphasized that closer parliamentary cooperation provides a clearer picture of the realities in both countries and strengthens their economic, cultural, and institutional ties. Additionally, he noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (AP-CPLP) in Luanda can play a crucial role in promoting dialogue and seeking solutions to challenges faced by some countries within the community, such as the political situation in Guinea-Bissau.
Regarding Brazil's absence from the meeting, Aguiar-Branco expressed confidence that the country would soon resume its full involvement in CPLP activities, underscoring Brazil's importance to the organization.
In a separate meeting, Janira Hopffer Almada, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Cape Verde, reaffirmed her country's strong relationship with Angola, which is sustained by historical ties and shared ideals. During her meeting with Ado de Almeida, Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola, Almada extended an official invitation to visit Cape Verde to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments.
Almada praised the organization of the AP-CPLP meeting and the hospitality extended by Angola, expressing hope that the deliberations would strengthen the CPLP's credibility and enhance the effectiveness of its decisions. She also addressed the issue of terrorism in Mozambique, clarifying that it was not on the session's agenda but reaffirmed the CPLP's commitment to defending democratic principles and the well-being of its people.
