Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o on Friday emphasized the critical need for Africa's industrialization, the development of human capital, and the enhancement of multilateralism as foundational elements for sustainable development and global stability. The statement was made during a ceremony at the Protocol Complex of the Presidency of the Republic, where New Year's greetings were presented by the Diplomatic Corps and International Organizations accredited in Angola.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o reiterated Angola's stance in various international forums, advocating for the industrialization of the African continent, coupled with technological innovation and human resource training, as a structural solution to development challenges. He underscored the importance of international partnerships grounded in equality, mutual respect, and shared responsibility.
In his address, President Louren§o highlighted commitments made at the African Union-European Union Summit, emphasizing a joint vision for development by 2030. This vision aligns with the African Union's Agenda 2063, European objectives, and the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, marking a collective effort towards sustainable growth.
Further, Joo Louren§o called for European support in the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. He advocated for the strengthening of regional value chains, notably in critical minerals, and cooperation in connectivity infrastructure projects, acknowledging the European Union as Africa's main trading partner and investor.
Reflecting on his tenure as the rotating president of the African Union, which began in February of the previous year, Louren§o reaffirmed Angola's dedication to fostering peace, security, and stability across the continent-key conditions for African development. He also noted the ongoing challenge of ending armed conflicts in Africa, underscoring the necessity of continued efforts to realize the ideal of 'silencing the guns.'
