Kongo: Various goods destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were seized, last week, by the Border Police, in the northern province of Zaire, for attempted tax evasion.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the spokesperson for the National Police in Zaire, Lus Bernardo, informed the press on Monday (17) that the confiscated items included basic food basket products, footwear, tile adhesive, and clothing. These goods were intercepted at the border posts of Luvo, Noqui, Mpalala, and Cuimba.
He further explained that the products were being smuggled using three-wheeled motorbikes along clandestine routes that separate the province of Zaire from the Central Congo Region in the DRC. This method of transport indicates a strategic attempt to evade official border checks and duties.
Lus Bernardo also highlighted that during the past week, the Border Guard Police in Zaire documented three customs offenses related to the attempted smuggling and illegal export of commodities. These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in curbing illegal trade activities along the border.
The confiscated goods have been transferred to the General Tax Administration (AGT) in the border municipality of Luvo for the necessary legal procedures, ensuring that the appropriate measures are taken to address this attempted tax evasion.
