Biomedical Scientists Association Proposes Strengthened Malaria Prevention Measures

Luanda: The head of the Angolan Association of Clinical and Laboratory Biomedical Scientists (OBCLA), Joana Quental, defended on Monday in Luanda the need to strengthen malaria prevention measures, with focus on soil treatment, encouraging scientific research, and training more professionals. She also warned of the need to regulate the practice of the profession, denouncing the existence of biomedical scientists and trainees working without registration with the order.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the head of the association acknowledged the efforts of the Health Ministry in combating the disease, considering that the success of the actions depends on the coordination between prevention, diagnosis and treatment. "The Ministry of Health has been doing its part, and we, as an order, have contributed to the diagnosis, because it is only possible to treat correctly when there is an accurate diagnosis," she stated.

The OBCLA, she said, has received complaints about biomedical professionals and trainees who practice without registration and without the respective professional card, a situation that she classified as a risk to the quality of health services. To address the problem, she explained that the order has been conducting institutional visits, awareness campaigns, and notifying institutions that host professionals without proper registration.
