Luanda: The Carrinho Business Group announced on Friday that it has ceased importing frozen pork, thus reinforcing its commitment to national self-sufficiency. In a statement obtained by ANGOP, the business group informed operators in the agri-food sector and the general public that Carrinho Proteína, the group's company responsible for promoting and developing livestock production, has decided to permanently cease importing frozen pork. From now on, the supply of this product will be guaranteed exclusively through national production. According to Angola Press News Agency, this milestone represents a historic advance on the path to food self-sufficiency and economic sovereignty. It also reaffirms the group's commitment to the sustainable development of the country and consolidates the substitution of imports with domestic supply, which has a direct impact on market stability. The statement highlights that this decision was made possible by the consistent growth of national production capacity, driven by th e collective efforts of industry stakeholders, improvements in production conditions, and the progressive integration of family and business producers into a more organized value chain. It explains that the Carrinho Group does not produce pork but fosters and supports the productive ecosystem through technical assistance, promotion of good practices, organization of the chain, and encouragement of connections between producers and the market. The note adds that all the credit for this milestone goes to the Angolan producers who embraced the challenge of making Angola increasingly self-sufficient, since the market previously faced supply constraints and variable conditions that sometimes imposed greater external dependence. "The current context, however, is substantially different, with greater reliability in production, progressive improvement of sanitary practices and standards, capacity building, and more efficient coordination between producers, cooperatives, logistics, and distribution," the statement sa id. According to the business group, the competitiveness of the pork supply chain largely depends on the cost and availability of feed, especially corn and soybeans, which represent the largest share of production costs. Strengthening the national supply of these raw materials with greater stability and independence from imports contributes to a more efficient cost structure, reduces exchange rate pressure, and promotes greater price predictability throughout the chain, from producer to consumer. The Carrinho Group calls on other importers and operators to prioritize national production, strengthen the domestic market, value the work of Angolan producers, and accelerate the construction of a more robust, resilient, and sustainable economy. The group reaffirmed its conviction that developing Angola necessarily involves strengthening national production, valuing producers, and creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable agri-food system.
