Catholic Scouts in Angola Reaffirm Commitment to Pope’s Message of Peace and Justice

Luanda: Catholic scouts in Angola reaffirmed on Monday, in Luanda, their commitment to the values of faith, justice, and hope transmitted by Pope Leo XIV during his visit to the country. In statements to ANGOP, José Diogo, president of the diocesan coordination of scouts in Benguela and head of the So Paulo-Catumbela Group, highlighted that the Holy Father's homily brought a message of comfort, joy, and spiritual renewal. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Pope's message was seen as a beacon of tranquility, peace, and hope, eagerly awaited by the Angolan people. The appeal for justice made by the Pontiff comes at a sensitive moment for Angolan society, where justice remains a central issue. José Diogo emphasized the role of the Church as a space that welcomes both saints and sinners, reinforcing the importance of inclusion and community life. The meeting during the papal visit aimed to strengthen the faith of not just Catholics, but the whole society. He explained that the meeting holds symbolic val ue for everyone, regardless of religion, and provides an opportunity to reaffirm faith and promote coexistence between different beliefs. Regarding youth involvement, the scout leader appealed for greater engagement in social and religious life, urging young people to build values, avoid negative paths, and focus on becoming well-rounded citizens and Christians. The strategic choice of locations for religious meetings was noted as crucial for ensuring widespread participation, especially from needy communities. José Diogo expressed his belief that the Pope's influence as a global religious leader could significantly strengthen social cohesion and equity in Angola.
