Electoral Register Update and Proof of Life Process to Begin June 15

Luanda: The Regular Electoral Register Update and Proof of Life Process is set to commence on Monday, June 15, across the nation, targeting approximately 16,707,455 eligible citizens. This initiative was announced by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Daniel Félix Neto, on Friday, during the official launch aimed at ensuring the database update of citizens of legal voting age. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Ministry of Territorial Administration has strategized to gradually deploy 634 One-Stop Public Service Counters (BUAP) nationwide to facilitate the process. In the initial phase, 254 service points will be operational, extending across all 21 provinces. The province of Luanda will see all its municipalities starting the process, while the other 20 provinces will initiate the process in three municipalities each. A total of 1,265 trained brigade members will be mobilized, with additional operator training ongoing for the subsequent phase. Daniel Félix Neto further mentioned that by Ju ly, over 380 service points will be activated, increasing the total number of operational BUAPs to 634. This phase will involve more than 10,000 brigade members, with recruitment and hiring details to be announced soon. It was clarified that the process excludes the issuance of new voter cards; however, existing voter cards can be used for data confirmation, and ID cards will also be accepted. The data collected from this exercise will be consolidated and forwarded to the National Electoral Commission (CNE) for polling station mapping and electoral roll preparation. During the presentation, it was highlighted that citizens failing to provide proof of life within the stipulated timeframe might not be included in the electoral rolls, potentially disenfranchising them from voting in the 2027 general elections.
