European Union Welcomes Angola’s Role in Regional Stability

Luanda: The European Union (EU) welcomed, on Wednesday, the important role played by Angola as a key-actor in regional stability. According to Angola Press News Agency, the EU representative in the country, Ambassador Rosário Bento Pais, emphasized the significant role of the Angolan Head of State, Joo Lourenço, in this context. This role is particularly evident in the exercise of regional mediation. Speaking at the ceremony to celebrate Europe Day, which is marked on May 9th, she mentioned that no country can face the challenges that arise today on its own. Rosário Bento Pais highlighted that it is within this framework that the EU is committed to fostering strong and balanced partnerships. Consequently, the partnership with Angola is a tangible expression of a vision aimed at building a better world through multilateralism and dialogue. Over the past year, under Angola's leadership, the partnership between the EU and Africa has gained new momentum. She further explained that this partnership with Angola demonstrates that international cooperation, when based on trust and mutual respect, yields concrete results for the populations involved. Additionally, Angola's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, reiterated the strategic partnership with the EU. He noted that there is a bilateral partnership that encompasses various sectors, and he welcomed the successful outcomes of cooperation with the European bloc. In addition, the vice-president of the MPLA, Mara Quiosa, acknowledged the significance of this cooperation, reflecting on more than 40 years of bilateral collaboration, political trust, and joint efforts. European Union Day is celebrated annually on May 9 to commemorate the historic Schuman Declaration of 1950, which laid the foundations for the current EU. This date symbolizes peace, unity, and cooperation between E uropean countries following the Second World War, serving as one of the fundamental symbols of European identity.
