Fuel Smuggling in Angola Drops 70% Over 14 Months, Announces Minister

Mbanza kongo: Francisco Furtado, Minister of State and Head of the Military Office of the President of the Republic, announced in the city of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, that fuel smuggling to neighboring countries has fallen by 70% across Angola over the past 14 months.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Furtado revealed these findings during a presentation on the outcomes of the Ministerial Commission's efforts against the smuggling of petroleum products. During this period, authorities have seized over six million liters of fuel, marking a substantial reduction in the volume of refined products trafficked to neighboring countries in relation to national production and imports required to satisfy Angola's energy demands.

The minister highlighted the positive impact of the Interministerial Commission's work in several provinces, particularly in Zaire, Cabinda, Cuando, Moxico Leste, and Cubango. He noted that significant clandestine fuel depots, which were primarily aimed at smuggling operations to the Democratic Republic of Congo, had been dismantled in the provinces of Luanda and Bengo.

The announcement was made in the presence of Zaire Governor Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, magistrates, representatives of defense and security forces, as well as religious and traditional leaders.
