Moxico: Health professionals from the border province of Moxico participated on Monday in a training session on prevention, epidemiological surveillance, and diagnosis of the Ebola virus, in an effort by authorities to strengthen capacity to respond to potential outbreaks in the region. According to Angola Press News Agency, the training, promoted by the Provincial Health Office, brought together technicians from the sector to update procedures for detecting and managing suspected cases, including isolation protocols, response to deaths associated with the disease, and conducting safe funerals. Elias Pereira Alfredo, head of the local health department, said health authorities have intensified community awareness campaigns, with lectures and distribution of informational materials on prevention measures. He explained that, although the epidemiological situation in the province remains stable, the increase in cases of malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and measles continues to be a concern. With an estimated population of over 517,000 inhabitants distributed across 12 municipalities, Moxico, the largest province in eastern Angola, shares an extensive border with Zambia, a factor that reinforces the need for permanent health surveillance against infectious diseases with the potential for regional spread.
